From the Field: Stronger Chrysanthemums
Stronger chrysanthemums start with healthy roots How does strong root development contribute to a more resilient crop? In a recent grower story, our distributor Van Iperen explains how Vici Fix was introduced at the Rubens chrysanthemum nursery and what results this has yielded in practice.
Like many other growers, Rubens’ team is constantly looking for ways to improve crop resilience. After experiencing increasing pressure from root-knot nematodes, they focused on strengthening the crop starting from the root zone. As part of their integrated cultivation strategy, a trial with Vici Fix was conducted in collaboration with Van Iperen, Koppert, and REKA.
The trial compared treated and untreated plots under identical growing conditions. According to both the grower and the technical specialists involved, the differences were clearly visible. Plants treated with Vici Fix developed a stronger root system and showed improved vigor, resulting in a healthier and more resilient crop.
Vici Fix contains spores of an arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus, which colonizes and expands the root system. This helps plants improve their uptake of water and nutrients while increasing their tolerance to environmental stresses such as drought, heat, and salinity. The product is produced in vitro, ensuring a high-quality, pathogen-free formulation with a high concentration of viable spores.
Following the successful trial, Vici Fix has become a permanent part of Rubens’ cultivation program. According to the grower, consistent use over multiple growing cycles has further improved the product’s performance, contributing to healthier crops and greater resilience throughout the growing season.
